Venus is retrograde from December 24th-February 3rd. What does that mean to you?

Generally, retrogrades are recognized as times to slow down, go inward, times in which "being" is more important than "doing." We're used to hearing this about Mercury retrograde but what does this mean about Venus?

The following is a brief account of what I've learned from astrological sites, newsletters, and the I- Ching:

From North-Node.com: "Venus retrograde occurs about every 18 months and lasts about six weeks. Venus is the planet that represents love, attraction, and money, as well as our aesthetic tastes and basic beliefs about the value of people and objects in our lives.

"Retrogrades are times when a planet's energy is redirected inward, so the whole world experiences it on a more internal level. During Venus retrograde, conditions dealing with love impulses, attraction, values, relationships, money and possessions are altered and do not function in their usual ways. This affects everyone, regardless of sun sign.

"This is a time when we are called upon to go back and take care of unfinished business. Often we are forced to deal with deep feelings that have their origins in past events. They are activated on an inner level but are often difficult to express to ourselves or others while Venus is retrograde. Things tend to become clearer when she resumes direct motion.

"The real focus now is your relationship with yourself, and this time is especially good for acts of kindness and love toward yourself." (north-node.com)

"The Venus retrograde DOES NOT MEAN that your love life is in danger. All retrogrades hold in them the possibility of RENEWAL, REPAIR, RESURGENCE, RETURN, REVISION, REFLECTION -- all the 're' words. Yes, I know; rejection is a 're' word, but this does not mean that you are doomed during the Venus retrograde.

Again, all retrogrades are cosmic windows that allow you to pause and open you up to beliefs, habits, expectations, behaviors and 'scripts' you are running that NEED to be rejected and revised because they are obstacles to Flourishing.

The I-Ching, the ancient Chinese oracle, tells us that life functions in cycles, and that nature does not travel in a straight line to a goal but takes a zig-zag course.

It reminds us to stay humble, to be fluid like water, to know that all cycles transform. Inevitably, we are asked to trust the "Creative," which we might also call "God," or the "Universe."
No matter what is happening on the outside, it advises that if we are correct in our own thoughts and behavior, good fortune will follow. We will relate appropriately to the moment.

However, we must be equally conscious during "good times" so that our behavior remains modest and we continue in divine flow. Like the seeker who who came to the Oracle at Delphi, we are once again led to "Know Thyself."
